Day 14: Downeast Maine (Day 5)
Route: Frenchman Bay Retreat - Air tour around Mount Desert Island - Acadia - Bar Harbor, ME - Frenchman Bay Retreat
Distance Traveled: ??? some by air, some by land :)
We decided to splurge on a special treat...an airplane ride around Mount Desert Island...
We had driven by the airport everyday on our way to Acadia and the girls
had been hoping to take a trip on one of the planes... |
Waiting for our flight...better than any 1st class lounge :) |
We're ready for take off... |
Our future pilot! |
Some views from the air...
A lighthouse |
A lobster boat |
Sand Beach in Acadia |
Another lighthouse |
A picturesque bay |
And Emmalin was out in about 5 minutes
(Despite the fact that it was only 11am and this was our first stop of the day Emmalin managed
to sleep through yet another interesting thing. Guess that's why kids 2 and under are free:) |
Wonderland Trail (our destination tomorrow :) |
Despite extreme excitment before (and during the 1st 20 minutes of the ride),
Lily succombed to sleep, too. Oh well, Mommy and Daddy enjoyed the entire flight! |
Mommy, Daddy, the plane, and 2 sleepy girls! |
Time for some lunch....this one's for Daddy...
We decided to go to the Atlantic Brewing Company and Mainely Meat BBQ
Beer and BBQ, what more could a guy want? |
FREE tasting |
Despite her expression, she isn't tasting the beer. They make their own root beer and blueberry sodas so the girls got to do a tasting, too! |
Lily's very red hot dog...apparently it's a Maine thing :) |
Back to Sand Beach in Acadia (this time with swimsuits :)
Fun in the sun! |
On to Bar Harbor for some dinner...
We decided on Mexican for a change of pace |
Yummy smoothies! |
Chips and Guac! |
Today's Activities: An incredible 35 minute arial tour of Acadia and all of Mount Desert Island, A Beer (and soda) tasting at Atlantic Brewing Company followed by a BBQ lunch at Mainely Meat at the brewery, An afternoon playing and relaxing at Sand Beach in Acadia, A yummy mexican dinner in Bar Harbor.
I love it, "I guess that is why 2 and under are free."
