A Slow Start

Day 10: Downeast Maine (Day 1)
Route: Frenchman Bay Retreat - Malboro Beach - Acadia Nat'l Park - Trenton, ME - Frenchman Bay Retreat
Distance Traveled: just enough to get around :)

After a long night of catching up on work I discovered that the sun rises VERY early here :)
When I finished working at around 3:55am and turned out the lights
I noticed that it seemed very bright outside through the skylights.

I looked up the sunrise time on my phone and discovered that sunrise was at 4:48am

Since I knew I would never get up that early to see the sunrise,
I decided to stay up a bit longer and enjoy it :)

A beautiful Downeast Sunrise...something I wasn't expecting to see :)

We woke up to a beautiful morning...

The view of Frenchman Bay from our house at high tide
After a relaxing morning spent unpacking and enjoying breakfast on the deck, we headed to Malboro Beach so the girls could dip their toes in the ocean.

The girls waded right in despite the chilly water temps...
We later found out that the ocean water never gets more than 55 degrees
in this part of Maine...Brrr!

Shell and sea glass hunting

Daddy and his girls, again

Here you go, Grandpa Russo...
our first family timer photo...a strange angle and some weird shadows, so not our best effort
but that's what timer photos are supposed to look like, right?

On to Acadia Nat'l Park...
A quick stop at the visitor center to get our week pass.

First stop: Cadillac Mountain
(the highest point on the Eastern Seaboard)

I was trying to get a picture of Daddy and Emmalin when Lily jumped in...
she is turning into a ham!
We decided to cut the first trip to Acadia short after an attempt to take a family photo resulted in a major 2 year old meltdown! (After days on the road we all needed to call it an early night...we will be back!)

Maybe some food will make it better...
A BBQ Pit and Lobster Pound...this restuarant was made for Greg & Ashley!

The waiter brought out a huge lobster for the girls to see...
I'm not sure they know what to think about it!

Mommy knows what to think...delicous!
As you can tell...not good at all :)

Whoopie Pies for dessert...chocolate chip pumkpin cakes with cream filling...

I think the 2 year old is feeling better :)
Today's Activities: Watching sunrise from the balcony, A relaxing morning getting settled in, A stop at Malboro beach for shell and sea glass collecting, Our first visit to Acadia National Park, A great view from Cadillac Mountain (cut short by a temper tantrum :), A delicous dinner with something for everyone (Mommy had lobster and blueberry lemonade, Daddy had brisket and beer, Lily and Emma had chicken, corn on the cob, milk, and whoopie pie).

Looking forward to several more days exploring this beautiful part of the country!
